SHAW MULTICULTURAL CHANNEL PROMOTES 25 YEARS IN VANCOUVER

Vancouver-based Shaw Multicultural Channel is promoting its 25th anniversary in that city this month. The channel, which airs programming aimed at the Chinese, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Scandinavian and South Asian communities, among others, was founded in 1979. "The channel really speaks to what Vancouver is all about," said Shaw Communications president Peter Bissonnette, "Because the shows are produced and acquired by people who live here in our community. That means that we can be very responsive to viewer requests and the communities are totally connected to the programming." To mark the anniversary, the channel has revised its on-air appearance so that it "captures the vitality of the Lower Mainland." The channel also began a contest on Nov. 1, the winner of which will receive a trip for two to Tokyo. Entrants must submit a picture of something they would like to do, see, wear or eat in that city. Additional prizes, including Shaw cable and internet packages and gift certificates from local restaurants, will also be awarded. The contest is being promoted on-air and on the Web at <http://vancouver.shawtv.com>. It closes at the end of the month.
