CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES, UNIVERSAL STUDIOS PROMOTE BLOOD DONATION

Canadian Blood Services, based in Ottawa, and Universal Studios Home Video Canada of Toronto are readying a promotion that will tie a blood donation drive with the release of vampire movie "Van Helsing." The promotion will seek to educate young people about the need to donate blood. An ad will be inserted in 500,000 DVD and VHS copies of "Van Helsing," which will go on sale on Tuesday. A two-week blood drive will also begin on Tuesday at eight permanent locations in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Mississauga, and Halifax. Each location will conduct a contest which will give away 20 copies of the DVD. This is the first time Canadian Blood Services and Universal Studios Home Video have worked together. The promotion will be supported with public and media relations by Thornley Fallis Communications of Toronto.
