GOVERNMENT OF CANADA BEGINS LANGUAGE INDUSTRY PROMOTION PROGRAM

The Government of Canada yesterday introduced a new funding initiative called the Language Industry Program, intended to assist companies in the language industry to market and brand their products and services. Qualifying companies can apply to the program for funding for domestic or international marketing campaigns. Industry Canada will contribute 50% of the cost of a given activity, up to $10,000. The first deadline for proposals is Dec. 31, for activities that will take place before March 31. Language industry companies are defined as those involved in translation, language training or language technology. According to Industry Canada, there are approximately 15,000 people working in the Canadian language industry. "This program will provide and important advantage to Canada's language industry companies, allowing them to showcase their expertise, knowledge, skills and innovation, and to compete on a level playing field here at home and around the world," said Allan Rock, Minister of Industry.
