Vancouver-based marketing agency Irving and Company has created a new division called twentyten communications that will focus on the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Vancouver and Whistler were named as the hosts of the 2010 Winter Games by the International Olympic Committee yesterday. Twentyten will target local, national and international businesses that want to "leverage the Olympic opportunity" in their marketing. Eric Petersen, formerly marketing director of EA Sports, will head the division. "On July 2, the marketing around the games will truly begin and run through the rest of the decade," Petersen said last week. "It's essential for companies to develop their strategies now. First-movers always benefit most when it comes to events of this magnitude."
