CRTC APPROVES NEW ST. JOHN'S STATION

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has approved a new radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland. A license has been awarded to Andrew Newman and Andrew Bell, will operate an adult contemporary music station at the frequency 101.1 FM. The CRTC considered two competing applications for a station in the St. John's market. The second applicant was The Newfoundland Broadcasting Company, which already operates CHOZ-FM in the region. Newman and Bell have one year to begin broadcasting. Their license will expire on Aug. 31, 2009.
