MAXXMEDIA RETAINED BY UNIVERSAL FILMS CANADA

Toronto-based Universal Films Canada has assigned media planning and buying for its theatrical, DVD and video releases to Maxxmedia of Toronto. Four other agencies were considered for the account, according to Janice Doyle, executive director of advertising for Universal Films Canada. They were OMD, Gaggi Media and a joint pitch by Genesis Media and Due North Communications. The incumbent firm was Cancom Entertainment Group of Toronto. Three staff from Cancom who worked on the Universal account have joined Maxxmedia. Jan Arthur has been hired as vice-president and group media director. Judy Bergman has been hired as promotions manager. Barb Baxter has been hired as traffic manager. Universal Films Canada and Universal Home Video Canada are Canadian divisions of Vivendi Universal.
