By Adnews Staff
Métro-Richelieu is renovating 50 of its grocery stores in Quebec and opening five new ones this year. Métro operates supermarkets under the Métro, Marché-Richelieu and Super C banners. The company plans to spend $53 million to renovate the stores. It is also considering expanding outside of the province. "We're looking at it, but we have nothing concrete yet," corporate affairs manager Gilles Roberge told Adnews this week. In the quarter ending Dec. 23, 1995, Métro-Richelieu's net earnings jumped 25.9% to $14.6 million, up from $11.6 million during the same period a year ago. Sales were up 8.7% to $780 million, compared with $717.4 million a year earlier.
