MOLSON RELEASES FOLLOW-UP TO BEAVER SPOT

Montreal-based Molson released a new 15-second television commercial for Molson Canadian on Monday. Called "Pelt Trader," the ad is a follow-up to the brewer's "Beaver" spot which ran earlier this spring. Created by Bensimon Byrne D'Arcy of Toronto, "Beaver" showed a Canadian in a bar being asked by two Americans about his pet beaver. The Canadian produces a beaver, which attacks one of the Americans. In "Pelt Trader," also created by Bensimon, the two Americans, one wearing a neck brace, are again at the bar. A Canadian walks up with a fur coat over his arm. The first American says, "Oooh, look at the Canadian. Mr. Pelt Trader." The second says, "Trap that yourself....eh?" A beautiful woman walks up to the Canadian and says, "Ready?" The Canadian places the fur over her shoulders and the two walk away. "The original 'Beaver' spot has been incredibly successful for Molson Canadian," said the brand's vice-president, Andrew Barrett. "The two main characters really hit home with our target audience, and we couldn't wait to bring them back for a bit more abuse from another unassuming Canadian." The ad will run nationally for four weeks. Public relations for Molson are handled by Thornley Fallis Communications of Toronto.
