SHAW BUYS PAGE-DIRECT

Shaw MobileComm Inc. will add 5,000 subscribers to its paging business with the takeover of another Calgary-based company, Page-Direct Ltd. The deal is expected to close Jan. 31. Page-Direct will take the Shaw name. Shaw has Toronto-based Marshall Fenn Ltd. as its ad agency. Page-Direct has been handling its advertising in-house. The acquisition of Page-Direct will bring Shaw's total number of subscribers to 100,000, spread through Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. In October last year Shaw took over the eastern and prairie operations of National Pagette, which is based in Toronto.
