GOODYEAR CANADA HOLDS HAND CHALLENGE
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Goodyear Canada will hold a contest called the "Goodyear Hands of Fans Challenge" in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax on October 25. The events will involve groups of students from Canadian universities standing with one hand on a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine for as long as possible. Contestants will be required to stand with one full hand on the vehicle at all times except during hourly breaks. The events in the five cities will be visible via the Goodyear ZamCam located at <http://www.insinc.com/goodyear>. The last contestant still standing with his or her hand on the machine will receive a $5,000 tuition bursary from Goodyear Canada. An additional $5,000 will be donated to the athletics program of the winner's university. Each individual who lasts the longest in the four non-winning cities will receive a $2,000 bursary. The "Hands of Fans Challenge" is one element of the Canadian Hockey Association's national Zamboni promotion sponsored by Goodyear. "The Goodyear Drive for Gold" promotion consists of a motorcade of two tractor-trailers visiting 69 Canadian cities between September 2001 and February 2002. One truck pulls a walk-through CHA exhibit. The other truck pulls a regulation Zamboni which, for a donation of $20.02, visitors can drive for one kilometre through their city streets. Public relations for the "Goodyear Hands of Fans Challenge" are being provided by Environics Communications.
