LOTUS AWARDS CHANGE JUDGING PROCESS

For the first time in its history, the 2001 Lotus Awards will use an out-of-town judging process. The altered methodology is due to the events of September 11 in the U.S. The annual awards show recognizes British Columbian creative work. Per the new process, 13 judges in the U.S. and one in London, England have been sent CDs containing digital photographs of print entries and dubbed versions of audio and video entries. Over a four-day period approximately 640 entries in 38 categories will be shortlisted based on numerical scores from individual judges. On the fourth day the judges will teleconference to determine the award winners. "With the recent tragedy and uncertainty of what will happen on the world stage over the next while, we had to change course quickly and execute a viable solution for our judging process," said Stuart Ince, co-chairman of the 2001 Lotus Awards committee. "We couldn't confirm that any of our judges would be able to fly to Vancouver." The 2001 Lotus Awards take place on November 15 in Vancouver.
