EATONS' WEB SITE, CATALOGUE SHUT DOWN

Toronto-based Sears Canada is shutting down the eatons' Web site and canceling its catalogue, according to a report in the National Post. The retailer cited poor sales and a "misguided" marketing strategy for the move. Bill Turner, executive vice-president of merchandising at Sears, also confirmed in the report, the marketing budget for eatons will be cut but would not disclose the extent of those cutbacks except to say no employees will be laid off. A 100-page spring catalogue had been planned.
