UNILEVER PULLS IMPERIAL AD
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Unilever Canada has pulled a new television commercial for Imperial margarine in which depicts a potato, upset about an empty margarine container, impales itself on a fork. Unilever received a number of complaints from consumer who felt the spot trivialized suicide, according to the company. The spot was created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto and broke on March 5 in English Canada. The ad was pulled late last week. Further consumer comments and research results will determine whether or not the ad airs again, said Mike Welling, vice-president of business development for the foods business at Unilever. Other components of the campaign, scheduled to follow the launch of the TV spot, are also on hold while a decision is made.
