CONSUMERS GAS SPLITS UP AD ASSIGNMENT

Consumers Gas has split up its advertising account and is looking for four agencies. One agency will handle Consumer's retail chain. Another will do utility advertising, covering the residential, commercial, industrial and transportation markets. The company also wants an agency to handle direct marketing, and one for media buying. These accounts will be reviewed annually and the company will also hire agencies for other projects as they come up. Short lists will be developed by mid-December and decisions will be made by Christmas. The budget for the combined account is $3 million. Toronto-based United Business Communications has been working for Consumers Gas for a year and a half. It has been invited to pitch a couple of the accounts.
