CHAPTERS AXES AGENCIES

Heather Reisman, chief executive of Toronto-based Chapters, has fired both the company's advertising agencies, according to a report in The Globe and Mail. The chain of bookstores reportedly notified its two Toronto agencies through a letter that advertising responsibilities would be moved in-house. Taxi Advertising & Design had handled advertising for Chapters while its Web-based counterpart, Chapters Online, worked with BBDO Canada. Chapters was acquired by Trilogy Retail Enterprises last month. Trilogy is owned by Reisman and her husband Gerald Schwartz. The two are currently waiting for a ruling from the Competition Bureau regarding the merger of Chapters with Reisman's Indigo chain.
