TORONTO STAR PRINTING 3D ISSUE

On April 21, The Toronto Star will print a 3D issue. Said to be the first-ever of its kind, the Saturday issue will feature advertising and editorial pictures in three dimensions. Special 3D supplements, facing pages and single pages will be seen throughout the paper including in the General News, Sports, Life, Entertainment, Wheels, Travel, Condo Living and New In Homes sections. Readers can view the 3D ads and pictures with 3D glasses inserted into StarWeek magazine. StarWeek will accompany the special 3D issue and will feature three dimensional images as well. A multi-media ad campaign including radio, television, print, online and POP materials will launch the beginning of April notifying readers of the upcoming 3D issue as well as promoting a 3D Day contest. The contest will give readers the opportunity to vote for their favourite 3D ad. The winning ad will receive a Star Creative Award and participating readers will be elgible to win up to $50,000 in prizes. According to Tanya DuBois, advertising promotions manager for The Toronto Star, the creation of the 3D issue demonstate's the paper's innovation and creativity. The 3D issue, she said, is just the beginning of initiatives like this for Torstar's group of propeties. The Toronto Star's Saturday paid circulation is just under 700,000.
