IKEA PLACES NORTH AMERICAN ACCOUNT INTO REVIEW

Home furnishing retailer Ikea, based in Plymouth Meeting, PA, has put its US$50-million to US$60-million North American advertising account into review. The review is being handled by the Boston-based consultancy Pile & Co. The incumbent, Deutsch of New York, is not participating. Judy Neer, executive vice president with Pile, said the review is open to both Canadian and U.S. agencies. However, Canadian agencies must meet a number of requirements to participate, including full media planning and buying capabilities. They must also have an account larger then Ikea's on its roster. Pile is talking with a number of agencies including some Canadian shops but Neer would not disclose which agencies have been contacted. A shortlist of three agencies will be selected from a longer list of six. A final decision will be made before Christmas, Neer said.
