By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited marks the return of its popular Ty Teenie Beanie Babies program at all of its locations across Canada on June 13. 2000. The program, which has been an annual event now for the past four years, is based on the full-sized original Ty Beanie Babies from plush toy manufacturer Ty Inc. Rem Langan, vice president of marketing for McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited, said the program is expected to run for four weeks and will launch with the release of Millennium the Bear, available while limited quantities last. Customers can purchase Millennium the Bear for $2.99 with the purchase of any large sandwich. Each consecutive Tuesday following the program's launch, a new set of Teenie Beanie Babies toys will be launched concluding on June 30 with the release of the final toy called The End the bear. Eighteen additional toys are featured in the program as part of the Teenie Beanie Babies Happy Meal promotion. Kids receive one of the 18 toys, to be distributed continuously, with the purchase of a children's Happy Meal. Two "surprise" toys will also be part of the Happy Meal promotion and will only be identified when they become available in restaurants. Langan said this year's program features some of Ty's most popular Beanie Babies including some retired designs. The program will be supported with an awareness campaign featuring television, radio and in-restaurant advertising. Advertising, created by Leo Burnett of Chicago, was adapted for the Canadian market by McDonald's agency in Canada, Cossette Communication-Marketing.
