Defeat Duchenne prepares promotion
By Derek Winkler
Charitable organization Defeat Duchenne Canada is preparing a national campaign called “Time is Muscle” intended to raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The effort will take place through September, designated Duchenne Awareness Month. On Sept. 7, participating landmarks nationally will be illuminated in red. Consumers will also be encouraged to decorate their homes in red or to wear red clothing. In addition, digital images will be made available on the organization’s website at <http://www.defeatduchenne.ca/awareness-month>, to be shared on social media. On Sept. 21 and 22, the charity will conduct educational events in Ottawa and online.
“The goal is clear," said Lisa McCoy, CEO of Defeat Duchenne Canada. “We aim to reach every Canadian affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy to ensure they have strong support and to ask them to join us in raising our collective voices to call for equitable access to safe and effective treatments that have been developed through years of research, that are currently available in several countries outside of Canada. Every day without action is a day of lost muscle, which is why we are rallying now, more than ever.”
