Mattel begins Barbie design promotion

Toy company Mattel Canada has begun a promotion for its Barbie line of dolls. Timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of Barbie, the effort consists of a collaboration with five Canadian fashion designers to develop approximately 100 products reflecting the history of the brand. The participating designers are Hilary MacMillan, Ai, Paris Jewellers Canada, Cheekbone Beauty and Sol Kyst. The participating companies launched all of these products simultaneously on Aug. 15, along with eight collections reflecting notable Barbie fashions from 1959 to the 1990s.
“We are celebrating the Barbie brand's 65 year-long legacy as the brand continues to remain both a fashion icon and a symbol of empowerment showing fans that you can be anything,” said Jennifer Gileno, head of licensing and retail development at Mattel Canada. “Today, this collection serves as a reminder of the impact we can make when we come together, as we celebrate an industry first and continue to break barriers within the fashion and beauty industries.”
