Ikea revives TV ad
By Derek Winkler
Home furnishings retailer Ikea Canada has rereleased a television commercial first aired in 2004 called “It’s Not a Mistake.” The 30-second ad, originally promoting a winter sale, now promotes new lower pricing on a range of products. The creative depicts a woman calling for a man to start their car so they can get away from an Ikea store with purchases she presumes to have been priced in error. The ad will run on television until Aug. 11 and online until Aug. 31.
“At Ikea, ‘start the car’ has become synonymous with our brand's breathtaking deals,” said Jonelle Ricketts, head of marketing at Ikea Canada. “As we continue to make bold moves to lower prices and pass savings along to Canadians, we thought a reprisal of this iconic creative would be a clever way to reinforce our commitment to affordability and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the campaign. We hope the many Canadians enjoy the commercial’s revival and come visit us to discover all the incredible savings both in-store and online.”
