Metro readies summer events

Grocery store chain Metro is preparing a summer promotion called “Savour Summer Saturdays.” The initiative will take the form of two free barbecue events in Toronto and Ottawa, during which local seniors will lead cunsumers in various summer games. Metro will provide hamburgers, corn on the cob and ice cream. The events will take place on June 22 and 29 in collaboration with Dixon Hall of Toronto and the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre of Ottawa. The promotion follows a similar effort conducted in December in which seniors conducted cooking classes for consumers.

“For seniors, there’s nostalgia in seeing the things they loved in their youthful summers still enjoyed today,” said Joe Fusco, senior vice-president at Metro. “It's no surprise that most of them crave and look forward to summer gatherings and so we’re delighted to be giving local seniors the reins to both pass down and partake in the simple, timeless joys of summer with their communities.”
