Canadian Geographic plants mini-forest
By Derek Winkler

The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Network of Nature have begun an initiative called “Mini-Forest.” The effort takes the form of a collection of trees and shrubs planted outside the Globe Forum at the Vancouver Convention Centre. This is the second year of this program, which seeks to raise awareness of actions consumers can take to protect the environment. The organizations are also seeking financial support for the establishment of similar mini-forests nationally.
“Canadian Geographic wants to drive the change that Canadians desire,” said John Geiger, CEO of Canadian Geographic. “We have seen the devastation caused by climate change this summer, with smoke in our cities, and our boreal forest on fire. We believe by engaging Canadians across the country, we can all learn together about how each of us as individuals can help build a better, and more sustainable future for Canada.”
