Competition Bureau continues Rogers investigation
By Derek Winkler
The Competition Bureau has obtained a court order from the Federal Court of Canada as part of its investigation into alleged marketing practices by Rogers Communications and its subsidiary Rogers Communications Canada. According to this order, Rogers must produce records and information relevant to the investigation. which involves claims made in the promotion of its Infinite wireless phone plans. Allegedly, the promotions included claims of unlimited data, when data speed is in fact throttled after a certain point. The bureau is investigating whether this marketing “raises concerns” under the civil deceptive marketing provisions of the Competition Act.
