OCASI begins anti-racism campaign
By Rob Bale
The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants has begun a campaign intended to encourage an active response to racist behaviour. Developed by Mass Minority, the campaign consists of two 30-second videos that depict small acts of racism being ignored by those who witness them.
“We focused on the seemingly small acts of abuse we see and hear everyday that seed an environment of exclusion and hate.” said Debbie Douglas of the organization. “To shift the conversation we also need to shift how we present occurrences of racism and move beyond the expected indifference or lack of awareness. We needed to show everyday Canadians demonstrating everyday abuse that it is not okay.”
