Bitove retains full control of Torstar

The Toronto-based Torstar Corporation has announced that the arbitration transaction process of NordStar Capital has closed, leaving Jordan Bitove the owner of the corporation. Bitove will also maintain a voting rights interest in VerticalScope Holding and NorthStar Gaming. The Torstar group includes the Toronto Star newspaper and a collection of other city and community news properties. It also has interests in the Canadian Press and Metroland Parcel Services. The arbitration process began in November 2022, when Paul Rivett departed Torstar in what both parties described as an “amicable resolution.”

“Today our focus is squarely on the future and the actions we're taking to put the Toronto Star and Metroland community newspapers on a solid footing,” said Bitove. “While the media landscape continues to evolve, our team will be entirely motivated by strengthening the Toronto Star and our Metroland community newspapers. Our commitment to quality, sustainable journalism and serving our readers will guide every action we take in the years to come.”
