Torstar buys Cineplex Magazine

Torstar of Toronto has acquired Cineplex Magazine from movie theatre company Cineplex. The deal includes publishing and exclusive theatre distribution rights to the free publication, which features entertainment content. Torstar plans continue both the print and digital editions of the property under the name Star Cineplex. As part of the transaction, participants in the Scene loyalty program will receive advance and exclusive content from Star Cineplex. According to Torstar, the magazine attracts approximately three million readers per issue.
“Cineplex Magazine is a fixture of the movie going experience in Canada,” said Paul Rivett, chair of Torstar. “We are excited to take our Torstar capabilities around content development, publishing, sales and operations to make Star Cineplex both a successful business and offer an entertaining reading experience to the audience. We look forward to continuing that tradition and developing engaging, high-quality entertainment content for the Canadian audience through Star Cineplex.”
