Toronto-based non-profit organization ABC Life Literacy Canada is preparing to conduct a virtual version of its annual “Family Literacy Day” event on Jan. 27. The event will take place online at <http://www.familyliteracyday.ca> and is intended to encourage reading and other literacy-related activities as a family.
The initiative will also include events conducted by groups including the NWT Literacy Council in Yellowknife, the Centre for Family Literacy in Edmonton, the Okotoks Public Library in Okotoks, AB, Read Saskatoon of Saskatoon, the Border Regional Library in Virden, MB, the South Mountain Planning Team in Hamilton, ON, the Early Childhood Family Resource Centre of Westmorland Albert in Dieppe, NB, and the New Glasgow Public Library of New Glasgow, NS.
“We want to give kudos to all of the groups who are committed to celebrating Family Literacy Day once again, despite the challenges of hosting physical events,” said ABC Life Literacy Canada executive director Mack Rogers. “Literacy and learning as a family should always be made a priority. Spending time together daily as a family to read, play board games, or prepare meals together can help increase the literacy skills of both children and adults.”
