Kijiji debuts Shop Local Businesses section
By Adnews Staff
Online classified advertising service Kijiji Canada has begun a new initiative called “Shop Local Businesses.” It takes the form of a new section of the site’s Kijiji Village category and is intended to help consumers find businesses in their neighbourhoods that remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic and offer contactless payment as well as pick-up or delivery. The section focuses on small- and medium-sized local businesses.
“Community-minded commerce is in our DNA,” said Scott Neil, chief operating officer at Kijiji. “During this hard time, we want our platform to meaningfully connect people to hopefully make things a little easier for Canadians. We want to help small and medium businesses that may have been disrupted to reach our audience of local shoppers. With many businesses only beginning to open up again, we also know that Canadians want to support their local stores but need help to understand what’s available in their neighbourhood. We hope that this new section will be a win-win for our community.”
