Tourism Vancouver, Tencent form promotional agreement
Tourism Vancouver and Chinese technology company Tencent have formed a multi-year partnership to promote Vancouver to Chinese consumers as a travel destination. Through this agreement, Tourism Vancouver will receive access to mobile technology, data and media exposure from Tencent, including its WeChat mobile application. Tencent has also released a localized WeChat app for Vancouver which will provide Chinese visitors to the city with information such as itineraries, attractions guides and other services. According to the company, this is the first WeChat app to be released for a Canadian city. In addition, Trip Advisor China will cross-promote Tencent Vancouver content to Chinese audiences.
"Vancouver intends to be a pioneer in the future of travel from China," said Stephen Pearce, vice-president of marketing at Tourism Vancouver. "Tencent mobile tech allows Vancouver to welcome Chinese visitors with personalized and effortless travel experiences."
