Mercedes-Benz debuts LGBT mural in Toronto

Mercedes-Benz Canada has installed a mural in Toronto to coincide with this year's Pride Toronto event. According to the company, the mural is intended to show its support of the city's LGBT community. The artwork is being accompanied by a digital campaign intended to raise awareness of the issues of abuse and hate speech. The campaign includes a five-minute documentary style video about the creation of the mural. The mural was painted by Toronto artist Thomarya Fergus. The overall initiative was developed by BBDO of Toronto.

"It's easy to ignore hateful words when they're not directed at you," said Dan Gaede, creative director at BBDO Toronto. "With this project, we wanted to share stories from people who are targeted and demonstrate the real impact of hateful speech. We also want people to know they are loved and accepted regardless of their identity. In addition to combating the negative speech, hopefully this will inspire more positive conversations."
