Cleansheet Communications launches CanadaSound initiative

Cleansheet Communications of Toronto has launched a new online initiative in collaboration with CBC Music, the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada and the Department of Canadian Heritage. Called CanadaSound, the effort is based at a website at <http://www.cbcmusic.ca/canadasound>. The site encourages visitors to upload "Canadian sounds" to serve as inspiration for musicians to create new Canadian songs. The site is seeking sounds that express the submitter's experiences living in Canada.

The material will be made available to Canadian musicians in any genre, who will produce original songs to be included on a digital album. Part of the proceeds from the sales of the downloadable album will be donated to MusiCounts, a charitable organization dedicated to music education.

The initiative will also include a CBC Radio broadcast on Canada Day that will highlight some of the stories behind the sounds. Social media activities are also supporting the promotion.

"When Cleansheet first imagined the idea, our goal for CanadaSound was to create the most inclusive musical collaboration Canada has ever seen," said Neil McOstrich, chief storytelling officer at Cleansheet. "The possibilities of what our people and artists can create together are as big as the nation itself."
