Samsung readies TIFF promotion

Samsung Electronics Canada will conduct a series of promotions for its upcoming Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note5 smartphones as part of its sponsorship of the Toronto International Film Festival. The sponsorship also supports Samsung's line of super high definition television sets.

The company will maintain an installation called the Samsung Studio in David Pecaut Square during the event which will display festival news and information on a number of Samsung televisions. These sets will also be on display at the TIFF Bell Lightbox theatre, where they will show highlights of the festival.

In additionally, attendees will be invited to create a video depicting their personal experience of the festival using images captured with the phones to share on social media sites. Samsung will also conduct an initiative called the Samsung TIFF Emerging Directors Showcase. Five Canadian filmmakers will be provided with Galaxy S6 Edge+ phones to create a short film. The filmmakers will also live-stream parts of the festival using the phones.

"Samsung and TIFF share a passion for helping Canadians create and get closer to amazing film content," said Mark Childs, chief marketing officer at Samsung Canada. "By partnering with TIFF, we are enabling movie fans to experience the festival in their own unique way, bringing them closer to their passion through innovative technology and interactive, customizable experiences."
