Pelmorex Media of Oakville, ON will begin a marketing campaign today intended to raise awareness of the new national alerting system for Canada. The $2 million campaign, to be conducted in French and English, consists of radio and television public service announcements, digital advertising and a website at <http://www.alertready.ca>. The site contains information about the type of alerts Canadians will receive, along with of notifications, links to emergency preparedness resources and instructional videos.
The Alert Ready system is a joint venture of federal, provincial and territorial government officials, Environment Canada and the broadcast industry. Its purpose is to notify Canadians of potentially life-threatening events such as extreme weather and natural disasters. The system's distribution infrastructure is operated by Pelmorex, the parent company of The Weather Network and MétéoMédia.
"Canada's broadcast industry has worked together with the federal, provincial and territorial governments to ensure alerts about potentially life-threatening events are quickly delivered to affected communities," said Paul Temple, senior vice-president of regulatory affairs at Pelmorex Media. "Alert Ready benefits all Canadians by giving everyone immediate exposure to important, life-saving information, allowing them to take action and protect themselves, their families and property."
