The Ontario Provincial Police Association, based in Barrie, ON has begun a campaign called "Move Over" to raise awareness of the importance of drivers slowing down and moving over for emergency vehicles. The public service announcement campaign focuses on deaths and injuries that have been cost due to drivers not doing so. The initiative consists of two 30-second commercials that broke on Ontario Television yesterday. Each one depicts the story of an OPP officer who was struck by a vehicle by the side of a road. A three-minute video will also be posted on YouTube.
"This is about keeping our hardworking officers safe on our highways this winter," said Jim Christie, president and CEO of the OPP Association. "Slowing down and moving over for any stopped emergency vehicle is not an option in Ontario, it is the law."
