Moneris introduces Passbook-compatible loyalty cards

Toronto-based debit and credit card processor Moneris Solutions has updated its gift and loyalty card program to be compatible with the Apple Passbook virtual wallet application. The service, aimed primarily at medium- to large-sized businesses, provides merchants and consumers the ability to digitize physical gift or loyalty cards into the Passbook application.
Passbook comes pre-loaded on Apple IPhone and IPod Touch devices. It can be used to store digital versions of items such as airline boarding passes, coupons and gift cards. Merchants can scan the cards at the point-of-sale from the screen of the device.
"One of Passbook's biggest challenges to date has been the slow uptake in point-of-sale acceptance by merchants," said Jeff Guthrie, chief sales and marketing officer at Moneris. "Through our gift and loyalty program offering, coupled with our innovative POS solutions and strong relationships with merchants, we can implement Passbook's end-to-end experience on a much broader scale, providing merchants and consumers alike with the convenience of virtual gift and loyalty programs."
