Teletoon Retro rebrands

Teletoon Canada has undertaken a rebranding initiative for its English-language and French-language cartoon specialty channel Teletoon Retro. The new branding is intended to depict the channel as a source of entertainment for children and parents to watch together. The changes include a new logo, a redesigned website, a new on-air visual style and the tagline, "Forever Fun." On-air materials such as station IDs make use of sound effects and music from classic cartoons, while live-action promos depict parents talking about the value of the channel. The website has been modified to be more usable on mobile devices. It also contains programming information, videos and games. The work was performed in-house by the Teletoon Studios creative group and the company's interactive and marketing divisions. "Market research has shown that Canadians have a lot of affection for Teletoon Retro programming, with its nostalgic appeal for adults as well as the timeless comedy that kids and parents both love," said Russ Ward, marketing vice-president at Teletoon Canada. "These insights, together with Teletoon Retro's wide distribution, compelled us to seize this unique opportunity, sharpen our focus and hone in on the co-view audience." The channel is promoting its rebranding with a national marketing campaign consisting of radio, digital and magazine advertising, as well as social media activities, retail promotions and a contest component. Teletoon Canada is a joint venture of Astral and Corus Entertainment.
