The Canada Media Fund, Telefilm Canada and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission have formed a new working group that will focus on the promotion of Canadian films and television programs. This promotion will primarily be aimed at the Canadian market, but it will also have international elements. According to the group, its intent is to raise awareness of Canadian media products by showing how much screen-based content is consumed by Canadian audiences. The group will develop a strategy intended to increase audiences by creating consumer promotional activities that will complement the efforts of broadcasters, distributors and producers. It will begin with a social media campaign promoting Canadian success stories. Further details will be released in March. Members of the working group include Barbara Williams of Shaw Media, Michael Hennessy of the Canadian Media Production Association, Trish Dolman of Screen Siren Pictures, Claude Galipeau of Galipeau Group), Gavin McGarry of Jumpwire Media, Robin Mirsky-Daniels of Rogers, Brad Pelman of Pelman Consultants, Mary Powers of MPowers Communications, Serge Sasseville of Québecor Média and Helga Stephenson of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
