Rogers to buy Metro14 Montreal
By Adnews Staff
Rogers Broadcasting of Toronto plans to acquire Montreal television station Métro14 from Channel Zero as a Citytv affiliate. The channel reaches approximately 1.1 million households. The agreement is pending regulatory approval. A decision expected in the fall. Citytv and Métro14 Montréal have also signed an affiliate agreement by which Citytv programming will begin airing on the station beginning June 4. "Breaking into this market with the acquisition of Métro14 Montréal is a key ingredient of our overall strategy to deliver our content to a national audience," said Scott Moore, broadcast president at Rogers Media. "It is our goal to become a full national network in the near future, and this is without question, an aggressive and essential step in the right direction. Having a direct presence in Quebec offers a more consistent and reliable viewing experience with local and acquired programming not available on any other network." No financial details are available.
