Corporate Ethics International begins Rethink Alberta campaign
By Adnews Staff
San Francisco-based Corporate Ethics International has begun an out-of-home advertising campaign in the US encouraging tourists not to travel to Alberta on environmental grounds. Billboards have been installed in Denver, Portland, Seattle and Minneapolis, accompanied by search engine keyword advertising and ad banners on websites including Priceline.com and Discovery.com. The campaign also includes direct mail to US-based tourism operators and a website at <http://www.rethinkalberta.com>. A second phase of the campaign will begin in two weeks in the United Kingdom. "Alberta can't destroy an area the size of England by producing the world's most polluting oil and still be known for Banff," said Michael Marx, executive director of Corporate Ethics. "There is another oil disaster going on in Alberta every day and as more Americans become aware of it we believe they'll be less willing to support the province with their tourist dollars."
