CTV will launch three new specialty channels later this year as part of a joint venture with US-based Discovery Communications. Discovery World HD will debut on Aug. 2, taking the place of the existing Discovery HD. The channel will carry high-definition nature, culture and science programming. Investigation Discovery will launch on Aug. 30, taking the place of Court TV. Its programming will consist of crime investigation, forensic analysis and paranormal activity shows. Discovery Science will debut on Sept. 27, replacing Discovery Civilization. It will carry programs about technical innovations, consumer technology and the history of science. "These distinct new brands, each with their own strengths and character, are proven success stories around the world," said Paul Lewis, president of Discovery Channel. "I am delighted that we can bring these new services to Canadians and offer viewers compelling new destinations for factual entertainment."
