Cadbury begins Bicycle Factory promotion

Candy company Cadbury has begun a promotion called "The Bicycle Factory." The initiative is based on a website located at <http://www.thebicyclefactory.ca> at which consumers can enter the UPC numbers from Cadbury products. For every 100 codes submitted by consumers, the company will donate a bicycle to the African nation of Ghana. The company plans to send up to 5,000 bicycles to the country. One consumer who submits a code will be selected as a "Cadbury ambassador" and will travel to Ghana with company representatives to deliver the bicycles in October. The promotion will also include the distribution of approximately 1,000 instant-win prizes. "In Africa, a bicycle can mean access to clean water, medical care and education," said Luisa Girotto, vice-president of corporate affairs at Cadbury North America. "Our products bring joy to Canadians every day and now we want these small indulgences to bring a little bit of joy to those less fortunate than ourselves. The excitement, gratitude and hope that will rise from the villages when the bicycles arrive will be remarkable to witness and is sure to be an intensely emotional and unforgettable event."
