Magazines Ontario to develop digital newsstand
By Adnews Staff
Magazines Ontario of Toronto has received funding from the Ontario Media Development Corporation to develop a new project called "Digital Discovery." The service will consist of a digital newsstand which member magazines can use to create and distribute electronic versions of their publications, with the aim of increasing revenue and readership. The two-year project will include digitization, hosting and support for participating magazines. The money will come from the Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund, a program operated by the Ontario Ministry of Culture and co-administered by the OMDC. "This exciting project will allow magazine creators to take more homegrown content to the world," said Magazines Ontario CEO Mark Jamison. "This is truly a public-private partnership because with each dollar invested by the Ontario Government today, the industry will immediately invest another $3. The return begins right away."
