Mitsubishi Motors Canada has formed a three-year sponsorship agreement with Canadian Interuniversity Sport. The agreement will begin during the 2008 CIS winter championship season. The organization is the national governing body of university sports in Canada, representing 10,000 student athletes who compete for 19 national championships in 11 sports. The sponsorship, said by Mitsubishi to be worth in excess of one million dollars, will be tied to all CIS championships as well as a variety of other activities. Mitsubishi will be the presenting sponsor of all CIS championships and will participate in the organization's television programming. "We are very pleased to be involved in helping to raise the public profile of university sport and overall athleticism," said Larry Futers, director of national marketing at Mitsubishi. "At Mitsubishi we view ourselves as an athletic brand, and the positive association with such noble competition can only enhance the prospects of all involved."
