California Walnut Commission holds Canadian contest

The California Walnut Commission has begun a promotion aimed at Canadian food industry professionals called the “California Walnut Inspirations Contest.” This will be the second year for the annual event, in which participants are invited to submit products that include walnuts. Categories include main dishes, side dishes, desserts, baked goods, snacks, appetizers and salads. Finalists in each category will present their entries at the Canadian/International Food & Beverage Show in Toronto in February 2007. The entries will be judged by food industry professionals and members of the media. The winners will receive cash prizes totaling approximately $15,000. “Food processors and manufacturers operating in Canada know that California walnuts are extremely versatile and are a healthy way to add flavour and texture to a host of consumer-friendly products,” said Amy Myrdal, North American marketing director for the California Walnut Commission. “The contest will allow participants to showcase their ideas using walnuts as a key ingredient in their new products.”
