Souvenir of Canada campaign begins
By Adnews Staff
ACLC of Toronto has created two commercials for Media Headquarters, also based in Toronto, to promote a new film called “Souvenir of Canada.” The film is a documentary on Canadian culture based on the book of the same name by Douglas Coupland. The two commercials take Canadian stereotypes as their theme. In the first, a woman arrives home to find two cushions missing from the sofa. Her husband walks in wearing a set of hockey goalie equipment with the cushions duct-taped to his shins. Superimposed copy reads, “What makes us Canadian,” followed by a series of scenes featuring Coupland, Jean Chrétien and Terry Fox. The ads ends with the copy, “Douglas Coupland finds out.” The second ad shows a man and a women in bed having sex under the covers. The man reaches into a nightstand drawer and pulls out a bottle of maple syrup. The ads will be distributed initially by email to 10,000 addresses. Later the commercials will run in theatres. They can also be seen online at <http://www.souvenirofcanada.com>. The film will be released on May 26.
