CONSUMERS HOT FOR HOLIDAY SHOPPING

U.S. consumers plan to spend a little bit more on Christmas gifts this year, according to a study done by American Express. Only 5% of consumers said they would spend less, while 90% said the unstable summer stock market would not affect their spending. Consumers are expected to spent $1,342 on holiday gifts, entertainment and travel, an 8% increase over last year. A similar survey from Intuit of Mountain View, California showed that consumers will spend 20% more this season, while other surveys have suggested that spending will increase by more than 7%.
