CABLE ON THE RISE IN JAPAN

Cable TV is becoming more popular with Japanese consumers. The number of households in Japan with cable TV increased by 30% in the fiscal year ending March 31, 1998, according to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The number of households with cable TV was 6.71 million, putting cable TV in 14.8% of households. The ministry says the reasons for the jump are increased marketing campaigns and greater channel options.
