SECOND CUP MOVES IN WITH MAXI & CO<

The Second Cup of Toronto has teamed up with Provigo Inc. of Montreal to open Second Cup cafes in four Maxi & Co. superstores this month. Each cafe will be tailored to the community and will be in stores located in Montreal, St. Laurent and St. Luc, all in Quebec, as well as in Waterloo, Ont. Second Cup plans to roll out its cafes in all Maxi & Co superstores over the next two years. The specialty coffee retailer began moving into the retail market earlier this summer by selling Second Cup coffee beans and pre-ground, prepackaged coffee in grocery stores in Ontario and Montreal. By the end of the month, the coffee will be sold in supermarkets in Halifax, Vancouver and Calgary. Second Cup decided to move into the retail market to get more Canadians trying out its products. Second Cup operates 355 cafes across the country. It also has a 70% stake in Coffee People, which operates over 300 cafes in the U.S. and internationally.
