CANADIAN TIRE CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF NEXT WEEK

As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, Canadian Tire Corporation, Ltd. will release a national TV campaign next week. Thirty-second spots will appear in both English and French. The English ad begins with images of a circa 1922 Canadian Tire store and follows with historic company moments of the twenties, forties and sixties, ending in the present day. A voice-over at the end says, "As we celebrate our 75th year in business, one thing occurs to us - without you, we'd be history. Seventy-five years of Canadian Tire . . . Thanks to you." The French spot focuses on the people and lifestyle of Quebec and the contribution Canadian Tire has made in the province's life. The spot ends with a shot of the Montreal skyline and a voice-over intoning, "Un gros merci." Both spots, created by Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto, will begin airing March 10. In-store signage, a 75th anniversary Canadian Tire catalogue and a commemorative stamp will also support the anniversary celebrations. Toronto-based Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited is comprised of Canadian Tire Acceptance Limited, Canadian Tire Retail and Canadian Tire Petroleum. The retail arm contains over 426 stores across Canada, specializing in automotive, sports, leisure and home products. The petroleum division includes 20 convenience stores and 200 gasoline outlets nationwide.
